Summary
Grace's webbed hands press against the glass, his curious chitters surprising the young man standing next to the viewport he was observing from. He’s newer on the team, Grace jogs his memory for his name again.
The young man holds his hand to his chest, breathing a sigh of relief, “Oh hey, Grace. Come to see your new neighbor?”
He nods, chirping his burning question, “Who is it?”
“Dunno,” Chris, right, that’s his name– “It’s another mer.”
(Or, Rocky and Adrian are helped by a merman named Grace, and in turn they save him. Now happily living in the Erid Marine Rehabilitation & Research Center, Grace is surprised when another injured merman named Simon is brought to recover in a neighboring tank. Perhaps, these two lost souls may finally have a home, together.)

Whenever Simon looks at Ryland, chewing on the cap of a ballpoint pen as he grades his students’ quizzes, unaware of the late hour, sitting on their couch, wearing his soft cardigan, his glasses perched on the end of his nose, he thinks he’d like this in his future.
And for a harrowing moment, he fears this one singular dream he allows himself to cradle close to his heart will be ripped away from him before he can make it a proper reality.

If it is something beyond him, well maybe…
Ryland’s eyes glance up to the temple on the hill.
He’s not one who often turns to the gods. This village worships a different god from the ones Ryland recalls the fellowship or his hometown building temples and monuments for. He’s less familiar with this one. The Blood-Eyed One, the villagers call him.
(Or, the harvest in the village Ryland lives in is dying and the people are growing desperate. Their last hope is a sacrifice to the Blood-Eyed One, the Butcher.)

Simon's words die in his throat as Ava finally makes a path for them. Laying upon the deck with four harpoons pointing at him is a siren.

The glass finally did shatter, bits of jagged edges falling to the ground like shooting stars, as Husk jumped over the bar he’d been working and shoved a claw in Alastor’s chest, “I ain’t killing no one, Al.”
(Or, months after Angel walked away with his heart, Husk once more finds himself at the Magic Kat, and there he reunites with an old friend.)
