Summary
Nicholas has always been the type of person to say the wrong thing at full volume and get away with it without consequences, to do and act as he pleases without having to worry about the opinions of others. At Haesung Academy, Nicholas and Yuma have spent several years treating the school like a long-running social experiment in how much they can get away with, and the answer has always been the same: quite a lot. Then, a transfer student arrives mid-semester and causes a rift in the social climate they've worked so hard to maintain: EJ is warm, easy-going, and already laughing with people he met only thirty seconds before. He's also aware of exactly what type of game Nicholas is playing, whether he realizes it or not, and has decided not to feed into it.
Nicholas has never been ignored before. It turns out he doesn't know what to do about it.

“No buts,” Wonbin shakes his head. He opens another bottle. Sion didn’t realize how quickly they were moving through them. “People will think whatever they want, anyway. I bet the company just didn’t want to deal with it. They wanted you with Yushi, and he gave them a reason to pretend all this secondary gender shit doesn’t even matter.”
They wanted you with Yushi. Sion has no response to that, so he drinks.

Flabbergasted, Harua froze. In front of him was someone whose face he recognized, but whose name was unknown. "I'm datin' Shigeta-kun now, Jojo. See?" Yuma grasped his hands, shaking them in the air. "We were plannin' to go to the shop together.
"Jojo" blinked. "I … well … since … since when?"
Since never! Harua wanted to scream out, but instead swallowed the words and let Yuma speak. There was some kind of distress on Yuma's face that Harua could barely read. He had never seen him like this, mainly because the Yuma that Harua met was always grinning, laughing, or joking. For the first time, Harua caught his eyebrows furrowing and his shoulders shaking.
The universe was apparently an expert in turning Harua's life into a dull joke. He had been acquainted with Yuma his whole life—now, he had to be his fake boyfriend?

“Did you murder someone? What’s going on?” Harua tilts his head in confusion, Yuma mirroring the concern on his face.
Maki sighs, finally giving up, even though neither Harua or Yuma have agreed to his promises. He yanks the beanie off of his head, his hair flopping down over his forehead, and something else.
It takes a moment for Harua’s eyes to adjust, but when they do it becomes clear why Maki was so worried.
He thinks they must be fake at first. They sell those kinds of things in certain shops and maybe this is just some elaborate prank Maki is pulling on them. There’s no way it could be anything else.
Or: Seemingly overnight, Harua's best friend Maki has grown two puppy ears and a fluffy tail.
