Summary
The lights were on in their brownstone apartment. Dennis smiled up at their bay window, potted plants sitting on the little bench in front of it, and turned the car off. He took the stairs two at a time and cracked the front door open. He could hear Robby moving around in the kitchen as he quietly closed the door behind him.
Laila snuck around the corner and wound around his legs, rubbing against his shins. He reached down and ran his hand over her marbeled coat. She purred lowly before running off to jump up on her cat tree next to the bay window.
Dennis set his backpack down and stepped into the doorway of the kitchen, leaning against it. Robby was humming to himself as he transfered a glass bowl from the sink to the drying rack. Dennis smiled at him fondly.
"My hearing is fine still, Denny," Robby said. He dried his hands off with the dish towel before pitting it back on the dishwasher handle and turning around. "No need to sneak up on me."

Summary
“Rut?” Robby is staring at him. Finally lets go of a weak, incredulous laugh that is entirely humorless. “That's funny seeing as I don’t go into rut any longer. You know my body just shut down after…” He presses his lips together and shakes his head.
Covid.
Jack holds his gaze but allows himself a restricted upwards turn of his mouth. In sympathy, mainly. Occasionally, he might like to torture Robby just a little but he genuinely has no intention of playing this moment for laughs.
“I think it is time to reevaluate that assessment.”

Summary
Dennis bit the quick of his thumbnail, nibbling until he drags the skin to a hangnail. Until his tongue blooms with the taste of salty copper. He stops briefly, pulls away to inspect his thumb before ripping off the piece of skin once and for all. A piercing cry snaps his attention and his heart lurches forward, body moving on autopilot. Still, he's drowning.
_ _ _Dennis is a single dad and no one in the Pitt knows. Actually, no one knows he (and his daughter) are unhoused either. That all changes when his baby gets sick and only gets worse, forcing him to show up in the ED distraught.
