“To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson

(Or: Steve, Bucky, and their journeys through grief for each other, and for everything they thought they knew.)

Slow updates because this series is like, terrifyingly personal and difficult to write, but it’ll be finished eventually!

    Summary

The dude upstairs is ramming the vacuum into the water pipe that runs the height of the whole building, making a terrible racket every time. He glares at the offending corner of the room, then follows the guy’s heavy footsteps across the apparently thin floors with his red-lined eyes.

    Summary

Bucky’s brain is fried, like a TV left on static, and the only thing that seems to help is letting Steve make the calls—what to eat, what to wear, when to exist. He doesn’t realize he’s doing it at first, just keeps defaulting to Steve’s steady, no-bullshit certainty, like a lost dog instinctively following the one person who actually knows where they’re going. When it finally clicks—when Steve, gentle but firm, asks if this is what Bucky wants—Bucky, embarrassed as all hell, admits yeah, maybe he wants to belong to someone who actually gives a shit about him to make the calls

Steve can do the gentle Dom thing, sure. He's a Captain, after all.

“Excuse me, Captain America? You once said, and I quote, income should not matter whether someone gets fed, clothed, or sheltered. Can you elaborate on that?”

A lightning strike of rage hits Steve right then and there.

“Gladly,” Steve clips back eagerly, voice strong. “Basic necessities are fundamental to human dignity and survival. It’s a human right.”

    “Yes, but—”

“Are you aware that I was raised by a single Irish mother? An immigrant?”

    Summary

Bucky is an omega sex and reproductive specialist. The healthcare field can be brutal, but it's within his duty to care for omegas in need. His clinic offers a space where omegas feel comfortable, a warm and inviting waiting area before they're taken to an equally comforting exam room. He's gentle with all of his patients, especially those who are nervous.

Like the Omega in the corner, blond hair and blue eyes, thin arms wrapped protectively around his small chest. The poor thing has been shivering nonstop. He's young, baby-faced, and staring amongst the room as if he’s never been to an omega clinic.

This Omega requires extra attention—a physical and internal exam, thorough milking, and lots of stimulation therapy. Bucky would bet the Omega has never experienced an orgasm, and that is a crime in itself.

They are going to have so much fun together.
