Summary
Louis made Lestat a little crazy, sometimes.
Lestat knew this, he tried to mitigate it—pulling up little pieces of himself to put away on a shelf, like when he wanted to feed from between Louis’s toes or when he caught himself gathering blood like wine in goblets, bowls, buckets, all to bring home to his beloved. He knows these are unwelcome or unwanted gestures, he could collect his worst impulses and hide them away.
Or: Louis gets Lestat right where he wants him.

Summary
Lestat left early to hunt. Claudia was of an age now that she no longer needed a protector on the safe-to-them streets of New Orleans, and he had a packed schedule—dinner, dessert, nightcap. He’d killed a young factory worker on the way home from shift without so much as a thought, then been off to Antoinette’s. It was a shame she’d stopped singing. His life would be a bit more socially balanced if she were.
Or: Cheating feels bad. This might feel worse.

Summary
So, they were fighting. It was good, familiar. Safe ground. Honestly, it was a relief to Lestat to know his place again. For a while there, Lestat had observed nothing but concern in Louis’s eyes. Lestat needed no concern, deserved none of it. It made him unruly, off balance. There was a guilty weight he’d been dragging around for his entire life, one that held him close nightly and said, ‘you’re doing it wrong,’ to him over and over and got heavier every day, sometimes incrementally and sometimes like an elephant dropping on his chest. That weight was, if not lifted, eased when Louis looked at him with concern. That was to say: it felt wrong.
Or: A misguided marital tour of popular (and less than popular) rock (and roll) through the ages, both linear and nonlinear. How to pretend to date your husband for publicity and profit.
