Seongje continues, rhythmic and concise. Movements and wrist turns, a sly smile. “Weird and weak. A dog without a leash.”
Hyuntak's eyebrows reach his hairline. Somewhat less sharp at the edges, Seongje continues to clash and signal offenses as he would at his ear. With a very doubtful assertiveness for someone who just glimpsed some random video of insults. He trained for this, to offend him in a way that was reasonable-seeming and audible to Hyuntak.
“Let's fight, Go Hyuntak.” It was the last thing he signaled, after the barrage of ugly words and taunts. And at another time, that would have been directly offensive. It still is. But the whole situation was hilarious because his chest was shaking and shaking. He realized he was laughing.
Go Hyuntak is deaf and finds himself developing a crush on his enemy because he learned sign language to insult him. Geum Seongje is kinda pathetic and obsessed so his love language is violence.

After learning that Park Humin decided to date Na Baekjin, Go Hyuntak’s anger was unsalvageable. Nothing could calm the student and certainly not his best-friend who didn’t seem to understand why being in a relationship with the guy that killed Gotak's dream to be a young Olympic Taekwondo player was a problem. He tried to sulk, he tried to bribe, he even begged who he used to call his platonic soulmate to break up with that guy, but nothing could do it. Baku was desperately lovesick and their friend group would never allow them to fight in any way. So Hyuntak did the only sensical things he could think of. He would make Park Humin as mad as he was. He would be fuming and Gotak knew the perfect bait for that.
Geum Seongje.It was time for a sweet revenge.

Summary
At some point during the summer of their senior year in high school, Go Hyuntak stops hearing anything in his left ear.
The change happens gradually. Halfway through the year, he starts turning up the volume on his earbuds while listening to music. Near final exams, he gets used to walking on Baku’s left side so he can hear with his right.
In the third week of July, Geum Seongje gives him one good slap on the cheek and his hearing is gone before the initial sting has even dissipated.
