Summary

Summary
She places the fruit on his tongue. His open mouth is warm, his breath sliding along her fingers in a rush.
When he does the same to her, the edge of his thumb catches on her bottom lip by accident. He doesn’t let his hand linger. She resists the urge to smack her lips to rid herself of the sour-salt taste of the cacao fruit and his skin.
The woodwind howl of the voices around her is making her dizzy.
There’s an audible click when they both bite through the pulp, cracking into the bean within. Bitterness fills her mouth, a metallic sheen covering the deepest chocolate she’s tasted in her life. It takes effort not to cringe. Inexplicably, it reminds her of blood.

Shuri stepped closer.
Namor gestured again. “Closer.”
Shuri took another, smaller step closer. She was close enough to count the water droplets cascading down his chest. Drawing her eyes away, she looked up and was surprised to see Namor staring at her just as intently. His gaze shot down to her lips.
Suddenly nervous, Shuri did the first thing she could think of and punched Namor right in his stupidly handsome face.

Plagued by the ghost of her long-dead cousin, Shuri does the sensible thing and goes along with his harebrained scheme to seduce Namor and unceremoniously dump the man. It’s not exactly the type of revenge she would have thought of, but if it gives her an excuse to see him, well, it can’t be all that bad, can it?

“Yes. But I only wished for one thing, and I had not gotten it before my death. So I was glad you showed mercy in the end.”
“And what did you wish for?” Shuri asked, advancing on him from the bed. “Your people swimming up the river to break Wakanda’s borders? An empire of blood against all other nations in the world?”
“I wished,” said Namor very quietly, watching her and not moving, “to hear you say my name.”

Shuri, who has given up the throne of Wakanda, has a lot of time to think in Haiti about the future of Wakanda. Fortunately, someone else is more than happy to offer some assistance, but when new developments arise, she and Namor of Talokan must forge a tentative alliance while navigating a more treacherous sea than either of them expected.
