    Bilbo’s heart, racing as it had been from this thrilling invitation, seemed to trip over itself at the name. “Thorin?” he whispered, and he stepped forward without thinking.

But an act of destruction like that means the Lord of Darkness who willed that ring into being will have noticed, and like as not, he’s amassing his army as we speak. All of Gondor may have fallen before I’ve so much as caught sight of Osgiliath!”

    “…I didn’t mean any harm,” said Bilbo. He managed to sound both mulish and heartbroken in the same breath.
