She shifted her weight and glanced toward the house before hesitantly looking back at him. “The house has been on the market for years,” she said carefully. “I couldn’t tell you why the last owner left, but it appears the house has a high turnover rate.” Her fingers tightened slightly around the clipboard tucked against her side. “Once someone moves in, they don’t stay for very long.”

The smile that irks Alhaitham once again paints over the Archon’s lips — and this time, he knows it’s meant to piss him off.
“I will approve of your resignation in exchange for the Aaru Village’s approval of the developmental plans.”
Since the Dendro Archon is as kind as she is wise, she decided to give Alhaitham one last quest - which, once finished, would give him the freedom to return to his easy and normal life as a scribe. Alhaitham, forced to abide by the words of his Archon, sets out to the desert where he pretends to be a traveler, to devise a plan to get the desert dwellers to concur to the Akademiya’s plans.
