“I trust you are proceeding with all the caution of a reasonable dwarf. Which is to say, none at all.”
“There is still plenty of time before I return for Durin’s Day.” Thorin glared at the wizard. “Now is not the right—”
“The right time has long passed, so save me the stubbornness.” Gandalf sighed, and his reprimanding gaze turned to one of near pity. “Be careful, Thorin.”

On orders to take some respite from his responsibilities as Crown Prince of Erebor, Thorin is exploring the world under the guise of a travelling blacksmith. Hiding his true identity is one thing, but lying to one Bilbo Baggins while simultaneously falling in love with him is an entirely different story.

"I feel strongly that one cannot raise a child alone, especially in these conditions. When my sister's husband was lost to us, I stepped in to help her raise my nephews. It was the greatest honor of my lifetime. I will do the same for you and young Frodo, if I can."
Bilbo believed he would never see Thorin again. He also believed that Bag End would remain empty for the rest of his days.
Fortunately, fate has one more unexpected journey in store. Together, Bilbo and Frodo will learn what it is to be part of a family again.

Summary
Bilbo Baggins, esteemed bachelor of the Shire, is less than pleased at many things during the start of his quest to slay a dragon with the joyous company of thirteen Dwarves and a particularly meddlesome Wizard. But, above all, he especially loathes the food --- in particular, the bread. Which is why he brought his very own sourdough starter to feed along the journey, leading him to secretly scurrying off into the night to grow it (for Dwarves, as they are, would most definitely make fun of him).
And as nosy as they were, two Dwarven princes can't help but follow Bilbo one night to see what on earth he was doing, bringing them to a grave, completely avoidable misunderstanding that has the Company of Thorin Oakenshield scrambling to rid their new burglar of his...'destructive habits'.
