“I said that?” That doesn’t really sound like something Kaito would say. He’s never been very good at encouraging people. “I…”
“You people all go waaaay too fast!” the purple-eyed man chirps. He swings himself into Kaito’s pod, gracefully, as if he isn’t bothered by the muscle atrophy at all, and then latches tight onto Kaito’s arm with a big, cheery grin. “One step at a time, okaaaay? Momota-chan doesn’t remember anything from after he was put in the simulation, right? But from how stressed the staff members are looking, it probably wasn’t on purpose! So something went wrong and you don’t remember!”
His eyes glisten. He looks over towards the man with blue hair.
“Don’t suppose there could’ve been… a wire crossed, or two, while he was in there?”

A simulation error results in Kaito waking up without any memories of the game, completely as he was before he entered.

Summary
The speed with which it all becomes familiar, just a boring routine, really gets under Kokichi’s skin, though. They’re not going to be at the facility forever. Eventually they’ll be released, and a battle to take down Team Danganronpa once and for all will begin. Kokichi intends to fight tooth and nail; even if that desire too was implanted in him by the simulation, he has no intention of keeping quiet. Not when it’s something like this.
So the ability to adapt to these kinds of conditions… it’s scary. And Kokichi hates it. He should be stirring up trouble like he did in the game, calling attention to how easily they learn to play nice with their captors, but…
Kokichi is tired, is the simple truth of it. He’s tried, and maybe a little bit of humdrum is exactly what he needs right now. If the person Team Danganronpa turned him into would protest the idea of being boring so strongly, then… maybe it makes him more than what they made him, if he just leans back and lets it happen.

Over the course of his four-month stay at the Team Danganronpa rehabilitation center, Kokichi takes solace in the stars.

Not that Kokichi resents her for that. It’d be easy to, seeing Rantaro’s persistent migraines and the way that Kaito sometimes wakes up screaming her name, but Kaede is just as much of a victim as the rest of them, and at least she’s never tried to shy away from the hurt she caused. It’s the opposite if anything. Kokichi tried once to tell her she should forgive herself, and that was the last time she sought him out.
Until now, at least. But Kaede clearly didn’t do that of her own accord, given the former detective standing in front of her. Irritatingly, Shuichi doesn’t respond to Kokichi’s jab, merely offering a small, almost sheepish smile.
“We aren’t here to interrogate you, Ouma-kun,” Shuichi says. He shifts his weight, a hand moving to brush his hair out of his face. “We were just, ah. I wanted to know what your plans were, for once we’ve left this place.”
Kokichi leans back, flattening his palms against the floor with his papers lying loose across his lap. “Sounds like an interrogation to me!”
“Well, that isn’t how I’d meant it.” Shuichi pouts too, a perfect mirror of Kaede’s.

Tim looked up from his phone as he heard a string of curses down by the beach. Cautiously, he headed down the old wooden staircase off the boardwalk, “Hello?”
A boy’s face popped up over some rocks near the water. His eyes were wide as he stared at Tim. The boy looked around his age, his red hair damp, like he’d just started drying off from a swim. “I’m…fine,” he said unconvincingly.
Tim hurried over to him, ignoring the way the guy’s eyes widened even more and he started protesting. Tim’s threshold of weird was a lot further than most people’s, and he wasn’t going to let something potentially awkward or uncomfortable stop him from helping someone who clearly needed it.
“That’s really not necessary - oof!” the guy scrambled to get up before falling back behind the rocks.
Tim quickly moved around them, bracing his hand against one as he finally could see the whole situation. His breath caught in his throat, seeing the white and red tail sprouting from the boy’s waist. This breached his weird threshold.Written for the MerMay 2026 Prompt, Beached
