This study has witnessed so much violence. The dark paint on all the walls pays homage to the soulless man who walked the halls with a metal switch clasped in gloved hands, and to the vitriol spat between uncle and niece when loneliness gave way to suspicion and doubt and love clashed. It has seen harsh truth after harsh truth, where one Kim Gaon would take root in front of the desk and repeatedly challenge Kang Yohan until frustration would explode in the form of hands on throats, screams, and raw confessions. Both Yohan and Gaon have shed tears in this study.
It's here that reality always seems to bite hardest. Calm discussions aren’t unheard-of in the walls of this mansion, but when they escalate, the impact is deafening. You can’t put impulse and heart together with realism and logic and expect two very unique brands of pain to blend with one another seamlessly. Without friction, Gaon and Yohan wouldn’t have come to know one another as well as they do now.

When Yohan approaches Gaon about having a picnic lunch out in the garden, Gaon is so thrilled by the suggestion that he doesn't think to question why his chief judge might be extending such an offer. Not that it matters, because no matter how quick he usually is to question Yohan's motives, he's going to do it, and he's going to enjoy it. Seeing the Kang family at peace is one of Gaon's newest hobbies.

Jongwoo has killed before. What had started as an accidental murder became six weeks of killing out of a need to cover up his actions and the sheer adrenaline rush that had come with it. His intention upon moving to Seoul was to leave that behind him—not for the greater good, but because it was necessary.
But with the way this man is smirking at him in this kitchen with its shitty lighting and a display of probably-human meat on the table in front of him, Jongwoo thinks he just might be pushed to kill again.
