    Summary

In the wake of Taggie and Rupert’s kiss and Cameron and Tony’s fight, everything in Taggie’s life went to shit. The man she loved moved another woman into his home, her father needed more parenting than her younger sister, and Taggie was generally heartbroken and exhausted.

As Taggie hid away in the Priory kitchen making canapés, she took comfort in the fact that everyone seemed oblivious to her misery--with one tall, dark, and handsome exception.

Bas Baddingham, avowed bachelor and Rutshire’s most emotionally competent rake, had watched Taggie and his best friend circle each other for months. So when Cameron moved into Penscombe, Bas was unsurprised to see Taggie become a shell of her former self.

In an effort to do Taggie a good turn, Bas decides to take her to the annual Hunt Ball. And when she decides she fancies a casual fling, Bas is delighted–uncomplicated casual flings are his specialty, after all.

Unfortunately for both Bas and Taggie, love and casual flings will prove surprisingly complicated.

    Summary

Kara is at the end of her nursing shift when a violent man is brought in with an arrow wound. When he spits blood on her, Kara is transported elsewhere. Soon she's doing emergency wound care on book characters and trying not to lose it. She can't watch people suffer even if it isn't real, but Aragorn is very suspicious of a woman who tells no clear story and smells like an orc.

“Stranger things have happened than you or I have years to tell of it," Gandalf said. "Why does she unsettle you? Surely you do not feel threatened. I am tolerably certain you could defeat her if it came to violence.”
Aragorn scoffed at his gentle humor. “I’m glad to amuse you. There are more dangers than warriors and swords. Need I tell a wizard that?"
“I can assure you she is not evil and has not a whisper of magic.”
“Yet a beautiful woman appears directly in our path, leagues from civilization, and immediately gains the hobbits’ trust. No wizardry, you say?”
Kara was not *unhappy* at being called a beautiful woman (although his standards for human women, as opposed to elves, were probably low), but she was unhappy to be stuck eavesdropping. She’d seen this scene too many times in movies. They would definitely see her.
