Summary
Hiroto was not at Irishima to represent the Soga but without thinking, he answered that he was the clan leader. Ariu quickly makes use of him and turns him into a public spectacle for the Mikaboshi.
Forced to fight off many tiny bugs, forced to fight Ariu's giant pet rhino beetle (who turns out to be fond of Hiroto), forced to fend off Ariu's other giant pet that's a stag beetle (that is also fond of Hiroto), forced in a singing contest against bell crickets (what is this?), or forced to sparkle (glow) brighter (radiation) than fireflies (just why), Hiroto's chances of survival are based on how many cheer on for this to continue.
If there are no other options for him, then Hiroto can only believe that Japan will win and he just has to survive long enough for the day he will be freed. Even if it means survival is getting the Mikaboshi interested in him.

Summary
After the death of Hiroto and Giyu's younger sister, the Soga princess, Giyu encourages Hiroto to have a child to replace Chiaki. Unfortunately, Hiroto is more than willing to cut him up if he touches Chiaki in any way or form.
Hiroto doesn't see why it is wrong to have a distant offshoot be the princess to the Soga clan, so Giyu keeps on begging his older brother to have a baby.

Summary
In the silence of the room, amid the cold hum of the machines, love, guilt, and fear twisted together like an impossible knot. A voice that no longer existed, a trembling gesture, a secret that burned hotter than death itself.
He watched her sleep, her face serene from exhaustion and medicine, long lashes falling like still shadows over her damp cheeks.
Paul felt his throat tighten. Not from duty. Not from politics. But because of her. Because of Irulan.
“I know I cannot give back what has been taken from you,” he murmured softly, almost like a prayer, “but you are not alone. I am here. I am with you, Irulan.”
