That stupid rusty metal door had never looked more inviting, or who was behind it. Her salvation, her biggest rival, the cause of so much of her pain in the past few years. Her last hope. She reached it and slammed her fist against the door twice as the rain continued to plaster her color streaked blonde hair to her face and wash the sticky blood down her legs. She took a shallow breath and held it, desperately hoping the person she sought was behind the door. Enid pleaded to whatever higher power was out there for once, someone would be there for her, someone would reach out and save her— The door swung open in complete silence on well oiled hinges and Enid immediately raised her gaze up. It was her.

Enid and Wednesday are rivals/frenemies in a superhero inspired setting. Lots of gay panic at inappropriate times from Enid and some more subtle pining by Wednesday. Who knows if they can navigate their hero and vigilante rivalry and slow growing feelings.

But she didn’t think of those things because she was too busy putting together a plan in her head to keep Enid alive, stacking piece upon piece of a fine china plan precariously balanced and slotted together, hoping she could glue it together and save the one person outside of her family she truly cared for.
Seemingly, life didn’t want her to because it was all upended in a moment and her plan tipped and shattered at her boot-clad feet, because when she stepped into her dorm room, all she could smell was blood.

Summary
Their eyes meet, and Wednesday feels herself still for a moment. Enid’s eyes are watery and red-rimmed. She can see how tired the girl is, undoubtedly having her strength sapped from the stress of her first transformation and from fighting the Hyde.
Her eyes are like lakes, Wednesday thinks vaguely. While drowning is a decidedly unexciting way to die, I wouldn’t mind if it was them.

Wednesday’s touch was so light she couldn't help but look down for just a split second, almost unsure it was happening.
“You’re…warm,” Wednesday commented.
At that, Enid felt her face flush, tilting her head even further, like maybe she could make out how many tiny stems were on each tree if she tried hard enough.
“Are you always?”
“Hm?” Enid tore her eyes from the trees, landing directly on Wednesday as if there were no other destination for her eyes.
“Warm. You’re always this way?”
Enid let out a small laugh, shrugging her shoulders. She felt warmer than usual. In fact, she wasn't sure she ever felt this warm in her twenty-one years.
She didn't say that, though.
Instead, “I guess so.”
