Summary
Megumi is beyond irritated with his dad, Satoru. He knows he is ready to try summoning Mahoraga. After one particularly frustrating training session, in which Satoru tells him, once again that he is not ready, Megumi blows up at his dad and makes a comment he immediately regrets.
The next day, their family receives a call that changes everything. What was supposed to be a routine mission goes horribly wrong, leaving Satoru cursed and comatose.
As days turn to weeks, with no change in Satoru’s status, Megumi is wracked with guilt and fear. He realizes that he always thought that his papa, Suguru, was the glue keeping their family together, when in reality it had always been his dad, Satoru, who kept them stable.

“Gojo?” came a panicked voice from across the other end of the line.
He recognized it immediately, his body snapping awake with the sound of his name, eyes blowing wide and flashing blue as he felt his heart constrict in his chest.
“Tsumiki?” he asked, adrenaline immediately beginning to kick into gear at her tone of voice. He knew immediately that something was wrong—she sounded scared—but it had still taken his lagging brain a second to gather his thoughts enough to form something as coherent as her name, and even a second longer to catch up with the fact that it was three in the morning and yeah something was wrong, something was definitely wrong.‧₊˚✩
It's the dead of night and Megumi is sick. Gojo rushes to get there in time.

“Ah, there you are.” Satoru tries to smile as he finishes wiping away excess tears, unfazed by gross snot. He wipes his hand against Megumi’s shirt and then claps suddenly. “Come on, let’s get something to bring down that fever. I left the medicine on the counter. Let me go grab it—“
Megumi throws himself into Satoru’s arms, wrapping his own tightly around his neck and shoulders, just shy of strangling him. “—for you,” he finishes. His hands hover with uncertainty over Megumi’s back because in all the time he's known him, Megumi's never done this.

Eventually the day will come when Satoru’s not here anymore, and what if Megumi realizes he didn’t hug him enough? What if he remembers all the time they could’ve spent together, all the time Megumi could’ve taken to let Satoru know how much he cares for him, how grateful he is for giving him a life he wasn’t supposed to have, for showing up one day all those years ago, and for showing up every day since then? Megumi is familiar with self-loathing, and right now, imagining a future where he let their relationship fade, where he took Satoru for granted and never said anything until he lost the chance to say everything, he knows how deeply he would hate himself for allowing that to happen.
