    Summary

    “Martin, I like touching you.”
He said it so simply, so plainly, that Martin just had to let himself reel for a second.
That wasn’t really an, ah, option? That wasn’t something people liked, and especially not Jon, who was so particular about touch in the first place, and -
He didn’t answer at first, instead just pushing Jon’s plate towards him with an averted gaze. The man pulled it in a bit closer, and finally dropped his own searching gaze, instead opting to grab some of the bread - a mercy, and something for both of them to focus on. Butter, spread, across a shitty loaf that Martin had tried to bake from scratch, yesterday. It’d turned out ugly as sin, but…decent tasting, at least. And now, there was butter to be spread on it, and scrambled eggs with probably-expired spices on their plates, and the sunlight streaming in from the living room window was bright and pale gold, lighting the whole scene just a little too real for Martin to process.
Jon looked back up at him after a moment, handing him a piece of the bread, and he took it easily enough. He…didn’t over-analyze the way their fingers touched as he did.
Eventually, he choked out the word, around the tightness in his throat.
    “...Why?”

Jon knows this could get him in a lot of trouble. Like legal trouble. Even ignoring any discipline from his job (he would most certainly be fired on the spot), but he needs to do this.

    Summary

The Lonely had taken a lot from Martin, and one thing he'd accepted as simply gone was his reflection.

It wasn't a great loss, honestly - he could do without seeing the way he'd just looked more and more tired, more hopeless as time went on. There was nothing good about being able to see himself.
So when it went, he didn't bother himself with it.

Months later, brushing his teeth, getting ready for bed in the safehouse with Jon, he saw himself again.
Or what should have been him.

    Summary

After escaping the Lonely, Jon and Martin briefly stop at their flats to gather what little supplies they intend to take with them to Daisy's safehouse.

As he's gathering his things, Martin finds his phone, abandoned months ago in his flat.
Charged, with the screen blinking to life, it begins to chime with notifications:
73 missed voicemails from 'Jon :)'

    Summary

“I mean…” Jon started, low, with his eyes scanning over the various odds and ends, not landing on anything particular. That was, until they snapped up to Martin’s face, a little too open, a little too soft - crinkled at the edges, with the ghost of a wry smile. “Nothing says we can’t make the hunt house cozy. I think it might help, actually.”
He bit down the instinctive laugh that tried to bubble up at that, and...at the sudden realization of just how *absurd* this all was.
Jon agreeing to decorate their new house together, temporary as it may have been. Them being alive together, at all. Just getting to discuss knicknacks and curiosities, mulling over it like it was domestic and normal, and - and -

And he thought he’d be dead, by the end of last night. Had practically *planned* on it.

…And now he was looking at themed mugs with Jon, in a little shop in the depths of rural Scotland.

     Funny how that worked.
