Summary
Cloud has no idea who this guy is – someone who’s always mysteriously appeared out of nowhere during the shakiest periods of his whole life, never seems to grow any older, and is as bright as the sun. A nameless, ageless, happy-go-lucky stranger watching his back.
(Or: post-canon fix-it in which Zack is pulled back to life, proceeds to jump through time, and unexpectedly makes a huge impact when he ends up being present at certain moments in Cloud’s past). -

Summary
The Zack Cloud remembered was straight-up handsy. Always there to put a balancing hand to the middle of Cloud's back when he stumbled, or tugging Cloud eagerly along by the hand; casually directing him with a touch on the waist, squeezing his shoulder when Cloud began to tense, knocking their sides together when Zack could feel Cloud’s anxiety starting to spike. And always, always stepping in front of Cloud in battle, unerringly protective.
Zack comes back. He isn't the same.

Summary
“Your squad-mates sure now how to crash a—” date “—party,” Zack says.
Cloud sighs, “Yeah.”
Vaguely, Zack is aware of noise behind him, cracking the night air like fragile glass. But he can’t pay attention to that, not when it’s happening again; Zack’s chest swelling with suppressed feelings. With love and adoration, so deep its almost painful, doubly so when Cloud is before him, vulnerable and uncertain. Questioning himself. Zack wants to rip himself apart at the seams rather than keep all this locked up inside his heart. Zack has to tell him. Sooner or later, he’s just going to blurt it out at the worst moment, spill his secret in a way that embarrasses Cloud, mortifies them both something terrible and awful.
“Cloud—” Zack starts, cutting off when Cloud’s eyes widen, jerking out of Zack’s gentle hold.Alternatively: Five (5) times Zack almost confesses, and the one (1) time Cloud accidentally does.
