The first time Aziraphale went into the dance hall, it was only for a quick drink to end the night. He caught sight of Crowley in a dark corner, lounged across a cushioned chair. A tall gentleman leaned over her body then, lighting her cigarette with the tip of his cigar. His hands were pressed on either side of her torso, and his eyes burned into hers.
Aziraphale left immediately.
He went back a week later, and he would not admit the reason why.(Crowley is thriving in the early 20th Century. Aziraphale is having a bit of a harder time adjusting.)

The man sits, the movement less elegant than before, almost like his knees decided to go on strike when he was helpfully close to a chair. There’s something in his eyes, something… haunted, almost. Something that Crowley instinctively wants to fix, to make better, but he can’t, can he? He hardly even knows anything about this man, not even his name.
