Summary
Alicent stumbles to her feet, and Rhaenyra reaches out to take Alicent’s hand in hers.
But also, they skate across the healing scar on her forearm.
When King’s Landing fell, when Aemond’s death was announced, when Aemond’s Kingsguard turned on Alicent and Helaena and locked them up, Alicent’s wrist was sliced in the chaos.
They had a maester come in and stitch up the mess, but now, Alicent sees the scar that she left in Rhaenyra’s forearm all of those years ago, that reminder of the night where the king was ready to give Rhaenyra everything and the wife that had stood by his side for so long not a damn thing at all.
Alicent’s son, for whatever he turned into, for the cruelties that he displayed, was still her son, and she never gave him the justice that he ached for against Rhaenyra's boy.
Alicent is going to have to live with that fact for the rest of her life. The fact that she failed. The fact that her son’s bones have never been properly dredged from beneath the God’s Eye and likely never will.
But both of the sons in question are dead, now. A wound, a scar, an ache that will take so much to ever properly stitch shut.
But perhaps—
Perhaps a chance at healing.

Summary
Alicent’s fingers drift over the scar she carved into Rhaenyra’s skin. The softest of brushes, an apology that is not given voice. They have hurt each other endlessly since then. Much and more has been lost since Aemond’s eye was taken. (Lucerys, Jaehaerys, Jacaerys. The wheel keeps spinning, crushing the innocent beneath.) And yet they find peace here in the beauty of this flowering garden as if they aren’t surrounded by a graveyard of bones, by a city grown hungry, by armies baying for blood.
Or:
During Rhaenyra’s reign in King’s Landing, Alicent and Rhaenyra begin to grow closer again.Bookmarked by mcdanvers

Summary
She stumbled backwards, knowing with horror that she was about to trip and fall and hit the ground in utter humiliation - when a hand shot out and grabbed her by the wrist. She was yanked back to her feet.
“Dreadfully sorry,” said the perpetrator of Alicent’s very near demise. “Are you alright?” Heart thumping, Alicent looked up, half-convinced she was on the floor and just hadn’t noticed it yet - and found herself staring straight into the violet eyes of Rhaenyra Targaryen.
