The familiar girl tried to help him up, ushering him from where he was laying down in the cold snow in front of the doorway and inside the small home where the sickly sweet smell was stronger. The girl paled as soon as she opened the dilapidated door, but she steeled herself and guided him inside, and it was then that he saw it, the carnage that was inside of what used to be a quaint little home. Corpses of people strewn about carelessly, their blood seeping through the tatami floor— Mom, Takeo, Hanako, Shigeru, Rokuta — seemingly against his will, his knees crumpled down onto the floor, tears filling his eyes as his throat let out the most agonizing sound…
And it all came rushing back.
His name was Kamado Tanjirou.

They were as much a mission as they were anything else and Kakashi never failed his missions. In a village of secrets, within the miles of red tape that surrounded his brand new students, opposition was only ever a few steps away, but Kakashi wasn't worried. He warned them. Repeatedly. Kakashi didn’t want a genin team. Kakashi had no idea of what to do with a genin team. He was self-aware enough to know he wasn’t quite right in the head. He should not be trusted with a bunch of children.
But did the Sandaime hear him? No, because the Sandaime wasn’t Minato-sensei and the old man never listened to him. And he went ahead with the brilliant idea of saddling him with his dead sensei’s son, Itachi’s little brother, and a kunoichi who was so much a cannon fodder that she had a literal target on her bright red dress.
He would not be blamed for the shitshow that was about to start.

Kakashi only knows how to teach three things: survival, assassination, and pretending to be normal. Good thing that's exactly what his cute little genins need to learn. And if they also learned how to be a family in the process, well, that's just a bonus.
