    “Clear!”
The sea of men parts at the warning, Trojans and Achaeans alike scrambling to make way for the chariot as it blazes through the ranks. Diomedes barely steps back in time to avoid the strong shoulder of a horse as it muscles by; he only needs to spare a quick glance at the golden gilding of the chariot beside him to know who it is that has disrupted the pleasant rhythm. Achilles’ brilliant armor catches the suns’ long rays and reflects them back in a golden shimmer, spear in hand as Automedon steers them through the mass. Diomedes watches as his enemy slips away through the thick ropes of Automedon’s reins, his life safe in his hands. A rush of anger surges in him - “Pelides!”

    Summary

    Pelides is staring at him.
Diomedes can feel the weight of his gaze like that of a nearby enemy, causing the small hairs on the back of his neck to stand alert. The flickering light of the central hearth paints Pelides’ face all the more sinister as he watches Diomedes through the flame, paying little attention to his own Myrmidons around him. Unsettling too, that Patroclus is absent from his side as since reuniting they are not often apart - something is afoot, Diomedes is sure of it.

“I’m surprised that he didn’t send you with us.”
Odysseus’ musing interrupts Diomedes’ tirade of thoughts, and he drops his eyes from the sky back to his companion. “Me?” He asks, for the statement strikes him as odd - he is not known for his way with words, nor owns any soft corner of Pelides’ heart. “What benefit would there have been in sending me?”
Odysseus shrugs. “We know him to be motivated best by pride and spite, and your rivalry is no secret. Perhaps some inciting word from you, or, better - his rival groveling at his feet begging him to return to battle. What man could resist?” His lips curl upward into his mustache as the words leave his mouth, eyes twinkling as he glances over at Diomedes again.

    Summary

There comes a point in every battle when the true challenge becomes maintaining your own army rather than defeating the enemy. After the first year had rolled past with no sign of Troy’s gilded walls giving way, Diomedes had shifted his focus somewhat; setting up more permanent supply lines back to Argos, and creating the proper infrastructure for food storage within the camp. Unnecessary, at that point, what with the constant raiding of Troy’s surrounding villages, but years of battle had taught him that it would become so at some point down the line.

That point comes in the winter of the fifth year of battle.

“No.” Diomedes says, watching as the branches above them shift with the wind, cutting the sky into smaller pieces. A few petals break loose from their blooms, and the breeze sweeps them away, deeper into Daunus’s gardens.
    “No?” Euippe asks.
“They never preferred me to him.” He says, the corners of his mouth twitching back upwards into impassivity. “How could they, when I’m…” He trails off, lacking the words. “No,” Diomedes repeats, “Achilles was-”

BLACK JACKALS AND FUKURODANI LEADER BROUGHT INTO CUSTODY OF KARASUNO POLICE FORCE - BREAKING NEWS

“Hinata, please, just come quietly,” Daichi pleaded. “Please don’t make this any worse than it already is.”
Daichi shifted a little, and Kageyama could finally see Hinata. He looked so small on the couch. He’d been eating dinner; there were a few Tupperware containers on the table in front of him. Rice, and fried fish, and a little salad, just so he could get his greens in. His phone was sitting next to the food, a volleyball game still streaming on the screen.
Hinata looked up, making eye contact with Kageyama.
His eyes were wide - confusion and fear. Kageyama expected his gut to squeeze, for that familiar icy tendril to wind around his heart, but nothing came. He felt… empty. Numb. Like all emotion had been ripped from him. There was no anger or incredulity. Just a pit of nothingness in his stomach.
“We don’t really have another option here,” Daichi said. “And I don’t want to have to use force.”
Hinata was still looking at him. This time, instead of concern, Kageyama saw his own emotions reflected back at him.
    This was not right.
    “Okay.”

    Summary

“It’s very impressive.” Kuroo said. “I’m glad I got to come out here.”
“And we’re glad to have you.” Kenma’s father said. “You’ll make a great asset to the team, and I’m sure you’ll fit right in with the other boys.” He caught sight of Kenma in the doorway, and smiled. “Kenma.”
Kuroo turned around, and met Kenma’s eyes.
He was tall, taller than Kenma could have discerned from looking down at him from the window in his room. His hair was an absolute mess (hopefully because of the flight and not because he styled it that way) but it suited him in a way. His eyes were the thing that really captivated Kenma though. They were an amber sort of brown that caught the light easily and sparkled like he knew something you didn’t.
Kenma nodded formally, pieces of his hair falling in front of his face.

(It’s Call Me By Your Name but volleyball themed and with a better ending)
