Summary
Snufkin agrees to accompany Snorkmaiden to a market.
“But we’ve barely started!” Snorkmaiden said, “There’s a whole row of stalls we haven’t seen yet.”
He stared at her, “That was not part of the agreement.”
She gave him an innocent look, “You said ‘not for long.’ I think that’s very flexible.”
It was at that moment Snufkin realized two things.
First: He was already carrying a small bag that she definitely hadn’t been holding when they arrived.
Second: He was going to be here for a while.

Snufkin managed a smile, small but real, “Thought I’d see how the valley looked with a little extra sunlight.”
Moomin turned eagerly, “Oh! This is my new friend! They arrived two days ago. They’ve been everywhere, Snufkin, you wouldn’t believe the mountains they’ve crossed-”
The traveler approached with an easy smile and a nod, “An honor to meet the famous Snufkin. Moomin’s told me plenty.”
Their tone was warm. Friendly.
Too friendly?
No. Just normal. Snufkin was being foolish.

Forced to communicate only through gestures, expressions, and shared intuition, they discover new layers of each other they'd never noticed before.Snufkin stands impeccably still for a moment, breathing shallowly.
He opens his mouth.
Nothing comes out. Not even a whisper.
Moomin’s eyes widen in sympathetic alarm, and he reaches an arm out as if to steady him. Snufkin only waves him off, offering a small smile, though the corners of his mouth twitch in slight frustration. Being involuntarily silent is not his preferred form of quiet.

Summary
It's unbearably hot, Snufkin is tired, and Moomin is dramatic. So, not too far off from your typical day in Moominvalley.
Though, something besides heat is lingering in the air. And maybe it's finally being pulled to the surface.
“I did something foolish this morning,” Snufkin admitted, eyes trained off to the side, “Something I don't normally do. Something I'm not sure I should admit.”
Moomin let out a gasp, already becoming concerned, “Snufkin, you're not… secretly cursed, or… or dying or something, are you?”
Snufkin huffed out a tiny, fond breath, “Not quite.”
