Summary
based on a post i made on tumblr forever ago:
mike always knew he liked boys, from the moment he met will. his mom told him that she married his dad because they loved each other. he and will loved each other, so they promised they would get married one day. ted despised it, always shutting them down and telling them that two boys couldn’t get married, but it never really got into mike’s head until middle school when people started calling them fags and fairies that mike started hiding it; but will never did. his entire life, he watched as will got called names and it eats him alive that he only saved himself. and then one day when they’re packing for college mike sits down on will’s bed and asks him, “do you still want to get married?”

Summary
In the summer of 1989, the Byers family moves to Montauk, cutting short Mike and Will's last summer together before college. Certain he'll never see his friend again, Will confesses his love on their last night together, rocking Mike's world entirely. As the tear-filled goodbyes draw to a close, however, Mike is suddenly offered the unexpected opportunity to travel with the Byers family and help them move.
They have five days out of state together to address Will's confession, learn to communicate, and maybe, just maybe, say a few things they should have said all along.
