Summary
“It’s not about the blood,” Soap murmured. His voice was barely audible over the buzzing of bugs outside. It was summer. It was beautiful. The world was warm and the sun would rise the next morning and wash them of their sins. “It’s about you.”
He shifted then. There was barely enough room to breathe apart. His movement brought him directly in front of Ghost, knees touching, eyes locked on his. Ghost was something unknowable. Something inhuman. He was a specter and a remnant of something that ought to have died a long time ago and Soap was the tether holding him to humanity. When he looked into his eyes he could see the fraying of the rope, burning against the palms of his hands. There was only so long Soap could hold him. Only so long Ghost would let him before he severed the rope himself.
“Sir,” Soap said then, awkwardly positioned on his knees in the tent, legs pressed against Ghost’s own, “don’t make me say it.”
