Ilya was addicted to social media. He knew this. Everyone knew this. Everyone loved his posts because he was known for oversharing and chirping. But half of his posts were just for Shane, pictures of loons and inside jokes that no one else would ever get.
People were just perplexed when he got a tattoo of a loon feather and captioned it, “The scariest things in life are the best.” When people questioned, him he replied, “They scream like wolves and have demonic eyes.”
But there was one post he didn’t make. He never posted directly about Shane. He and Shane were always private. For a long time there hadn’t been a plan to go public. They wanted to be closer than Boston, and they wanted Ilya to be safe if they ever got outed. They hadn’t intended to come out. But the years were wearing.

Summary
After a particularly frustrating game against Montreal, Ilya stops by his local Circle K to get his regular post-game strawberry Froster. At the same time, uOttawa Hockey Coach Shane Hollander bedrungingly makes his way to the very same establishment to retrieve an emergency Snickers bar - so you already know what kind of day he's had.
One particularly ill-timed entry / exit situation later, Shane's white tee is stained a violent shade of artificial red, and Ilya's too distracted by a certain assortment of freckles to apologize.
