“I want to see,” Sokka croaked, even though he was terrified and sick with dread.
A traitorous part inside of him still clung to the hope that Suki wouldn’t be able to show him. That this was all a very twisted, very cruel joke he would definitely be angry about for at least a few weeks. “I have to see him.”
But Suki simply stepped away, wiped her tears with the back of her hand and squared her jaw. “...Follow me.”

Book one ends with two major diffrences: 1. Sokka went on the mission with Hahn (it did not go well) 2. Zhao survives the North Pole and that proves unfortunate for everybody (except Zhao, obviously)
Imprisoned on Zhao’s war ship, Sokka and Zuko have to work together to survive. They are not very enthusiastic about this prospect.

Summary
Zuko blinks. Registers. And then he snorts a little. “What, because of my eyes?”
Laughter is bubbling up and bursting out of Sokka before he’s fully even understood what’s happening. He straightens to look at Zuko through eyes squeezed in mirth and slightly filling with tears. Zuko looks surprised but utterly delighted, and no force in the world can stop Sokka from planting a huge wet kiss on his cheek.
“Darling. Zuko. Sunshine. Honey. Oh my spirits,” he says, still laughing. “How long have you been robbing the world of your humour, my love. Snow and sea, I taught you too well.”A simple headcanon about favourite colours.
Sokka and Zuko learn more about each other as they watch the sun rise together. Turns out eyes aren't the reason after all, and maybe they were always sort of meant to be.

Zuko’s glare sharpens. Sokka’s throat goes dry when he sees Zuko stand up, towering over the minister with burning anger, barely restrained fury. His chest was heaving, and Sokka knew he was telling himself to breathe before he lost patience completely.
“You dare speak to your Fire Lord in that way?” Zuko whispers, his voice soft yet dangerous.
Holy shit. Is it wrong that Sokka is finding this really attractive? Because he is.

Sokka accidentally comes across Zuko dealing with one of his asshole ministers when he visits the palace, and it takes everything in him to not interrupt them and propose to Zuko right on the spot.
