Mydei glanced back. The stranger was watching him now, expression unreadable.
“You play violin?” he asked, nodding at the case by his side.
He froze for a second, raising an eyebrow. “Yes.”
“That explains the fingers.”
He stared down at his hands, unconsciously—messily made band aids covering his fingers.
The stranger shrugged. “Calluses. I’m guessing... classical training? But you don’t look like you play safe.”
That shouldn’t have struck as deeply as it did. Mydei swallowed. “I don’t know what that means.”
“Means you probably play like you’re trying to bleed.”

Jane leans in closer, the booth’s leather seats squeaking beneath them as she sidles in, practically a hair’s breadth away. Heat radiates off of his skin, warming her lips—so very, very close to his cheeks.
“Just because there’s a goalie,” she whispers, “doesn’t mean you can’t score.”
Jane aims to ensure Seth's happiness. Her weapon of choice just so happens to be another man.
She just didn't expect to like that other man so much, too.

Summary
“You nervous?” Dave turned to the sound of his brother’s voice, momentarily distracted from the half-folded paper in his hands.
“Nah, not really?” he replied with a shrug, partially surprised at the question. “This job seems pretty standard. Transporting a retired ship to its home planet for scrapping. Easy peasy.”
Born as a set of quadruplets, Dave and his siblings grew up attached to each others’ sides like a human monkey chain. Having each others’ backs proved more difficult once they became young adults, however. Their separate interests began pulling them in different directions, but thankfully Dave and his siblings did share the desire to leave Mars together. They had all decided to go the “interstellar traveler” route, and agreed to take multiple tracks at the Interstellar Travel Academy to become their own self-sustaining crew and eventually buy their own ship.
One morning Dave woke up to an Earth-based company looking for an individual with both engineering and pilot experience, which he was. With only one other crewmate aboard the payout would be insanely good, so Dave took it without hesitation. And now the day had finally come.

In the interest of doing some dumb bullshit and making hella money, Dave Strider has just released Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff: The Movovie, the latest in his oeuvre.
The thing is though, SBaHJ has never just been dumb bullshit. And somehow, Karkat Vantas is the first person to notice. A revelatory review somehow snowballs into a whole new era for Earth-Alternia diplomatic relations, and said dumb bullshit lands Karkat and Dave right in the middle.
