Summary
Legolas is cursed with beauty and has learned to hide his face to prevent others from becoming enthralled. But while journeying with the Fellowship, his face is exposed and he resigns himself to suffering hollow compliments from his companions for the rest of the journey. When Gimli offers barbs instead, Legolas is amused and goads Gimli to hear more and an unlikely friendship takes root and flourishes.

Summary
When Gimli is but a child, he gets lost in the mines of Ered Luin. It is dark, and it is cold, and he is alone.
He will never recover.
With his shaking hands and his Stonefear Gimli cannot perform as well as he wished, as a Dwarf. He can't go on a Quest to reclaim Erebor. He can't go on a Quest to reclaim Khazad-dûm.
He can, however, force his way into the Quest to save all of Middle-Earth.
There he meets Legolas, who reminds him too much of his friend Ori, in many ways.

The battle was over, and Thorin Oakenshield awoke, naked and shivering, in the Halls of his Ancestors.
The novelty of being dead fades quickly, and watching over his companions soon fills him with grief and guilt. Oddly, a faint flicker of hope arises in the form of his youngest kinsman, a Dwarf of Durin's line with bright red hair.
(Follows the story of the War of the Ring).
(Bagginshield, Gimli/Legolas) In which recovery takes time, the dead members of the Company take to watching Gimli as though he’s a soap opera, the living struggle with being left behind, Legolas is confused, Khuzdul is abused, and Thorin is four feet and ten inches of guilt and anger.
