Summary
"So you take the knife to the wall instead. You carve and carve until a coin of light appears and you get to look in, at last, on happiness. The eye staring back from the other side—waiting." — Ocean Vuong, Torso of Air
***
When Mai gets a call in the dead of the night from Zuko's uncle about how Zuko hasn't come home since the end of the school day and their breakup, her mind doesn't automatically assume kidnapping. She doesn't think anyone could be capable of making Zuko disappear.

Summary
The thought of his crew having siblings who hated them terrified him, but at least now he knows that Nojiko and Ace would give anything for Nami and Luffy.
He wanted Ichiji to hug him when something scared him, Niji to joke with him affectionately, and he always wanted to play with Yonji. Maybe it was the fact that his younger brother was always somewhat more childish than the others. Or maybe it was just the fact that Yonji was the youngest.

Summary
Jason Todd grew up with a fundamental fear of being seen. Not in the sense of shyness, but in the sense of shame. He supposed, if he wished to contemplate the fear’s origins, he might start where most tragedies do:
The house he grew up in.
Where the act of wanting was as good as a death sentence to that desire.
He supposed he might even make an argument for the statement “people become what they are called”. He thinks that might have some merit, looking back.
What he fears most, (like most other people), is how obvious it is to others. The fear itself.
He wonders if they can see it.or
Thanks to a rogue meta, the batfam gets to watch Jason's memories like a movie; and Jason just really wants a family again. But you cannot be loved if you aren't known, and well... if circumstances provide? might as well take the chance, right?

Summary
"Yo," Rose says, the morning of the mission. She's pulling her tank on over her head. Jason is very deliberately and respectfully not looking at the cleavage pressing against the swooping neckline of her shirt. "Would you mind grabbing the katana out of my case? Not the long one, the short one."
Rose is strapping on her armor now, which does some more excellent things to her cleavage, which means Jason is very much in need of a distraction. He perfunctorily mumbles under his breath, but turns his back on her to rifle through the bag tossed haphazardly on the hotel bed. Knife. Sword. Another knife. A dick. A third knife.
Wait.
"What the fuck?" Jason says out loud, dropping the hot pink plastic phallus onto the bed. It's—well-sized, Jason notes automatically. Involuntarily. Sculpted with careful, loving, embarrassing detail; veins and all. "You—what?"
"Hm?" Rose says, and then, sly as ever: "Oh. That's not the sword I meant."
***
Rose's plans come to fruition. Jason learns a few things about himself. They both have a very, very good night.
