Hello, and welcome again to the Aperture Science Facility and Enrichment Center. We hope you have had a pleasant rest and are feeling reinvigorated and ready to begin testing. The test chambers are of course designed to be healthy and fun, but be aware that Aperture Science is not liable for any broken bones, poisonings, moderate to severe burns, electrocutions, or bullet wounds that may occur from failure to follow safety guidelines.
Thomas has no memory before waking in an abandoned laboratory run by a sarcastic AI with a worrying lack of concern for his well-being. Navigating the AI’s hazardous “tests” and escaping to the world above seems a nearly insurmountable task, but it is one that Thomas quickly finds he will not have to face alone. But in Aperture Science’s underground world of mind-bending puzzles, physics-defying portals and friendly bots with mysterious pasts, friend and foe may not be as clear cut as they seem...

“Adrian will understand,” Rocky says confidently. “Will be excited to meet alien. Will be excited to meet person who brought me home.”
“Yeah, and I'm excited to meet them too, but after that!” Is this a translation error? A cultural miscommunication? How is Rocky not getting it? “You're partners. They're not going to want some alien around while you're, like… going on dates and all that.”
“Does not mean no time for Grace.” Rocky’s starting to sound frustrated. Part of me feels bad, but the rest is just as frustrated. “Why think this, question? On Earth, just abandon friends when have mate, question?”
It's so clearly a rhetorical question, to which the answer is obviously supposed to be no, of course not. I freeze up anyway.

Summary
As their journey to Erid nears its end, Grace allows himself to feel hopeful about the future. The Hail Mary has survived far longer than she was ever intended to, Rocky is practically vibrating with excitement about returning home, and Grace has more or less managed to stave off the worst effects of malnutrition. Things seem to be going well.
Until he wakes up one morning with a fever and a harsh cough and is granted a stark reminder of just how fragile his human body truly is.

Summary
When Rocky wakes up after Adrian, he's relieved they're both alive, but immediately knows that something is off with Grace. He's having trouble breathing, sleeping a lot, and spiking fevers. As much as Grace wants to blame it on lung irritation from the ammonia in Rocky's atmosphere, Rocky knows he's downplaying it, and it's not going to work.
However, before he can actually do anything about it, the ship's power goes out. Taumoeba have gotten into the fuel and eaten all the astrophage, leaving them with no choice but to steal from the beetles.
Which are on the outside of the ship.
Which means two EVAs and a lot of lab work for Grace, all while his condition declines from what's quickly turning into a serious health problem. All Rocky can do is make sure he has what he needs and try to take care of him as best he can from afar, hoping they can get to safety before Grace's health is too fragile to recover.Bookmarked by kiapet
