"Steve dangles his legs over the edge. His hands pressed tightly together between his thighs. Heaves a breath. And darts his eyes over the horizon line. Quietly, 'Tonight’s important.' He’s sitting between Eddie and Robin. Looks at them for a mere second. 'An anniversary, I guess.'
They hum.
Eddie chuckles. 'I didn’t forget our anniversary, did I? Is it six months already?'
He shakes his head. 'No,' he breathes, 'but it’s important.'
'What’s important about tonight?' Robin asks.
'Just wait a bit,' Steve ominously says. 'I don’t want to talk for a while.'"

“What do you mean what happened?”
“I just…” Jonathan’s eyes flicked up past Steve at the sound of the backdoor creaking open. “Mom.”
Steve turned to see Mrs. Byers’ in the doorway with a glass of water and a bottle of something. Probably the painkillers she’d promised. She gave him a matching look of concern and confusion, although she was quicker to conceal it.
He started to feel hot and embarrassed with the reaction he was getting. It hadn’t been meant to slow anything down, let alone draw everyone’s eyes to his bare chest. He leaned down to grab his soaking wet shirt off the back steps, although it was really just an excuse to look down and away from everyone’s gazes.
Mrs. Byers’ put out a hand as if to tap him on the shoulder and then drew it back like she was worried about hurting him.
“Steve, honey, you can borrow one of Jonathan’s shirts."

Steve pulled a packet of meat out from the fridge and started to eat it. The only problem was that meat wasn't cooked… It was still raw, juicy and cold.. Incredibly cold.
He had gotten through half the packet before he pushed it away slightly.
“What the fuck is wrong with me..” He muttered under his breath, shoving the packet back into the fridge.
