Jaeyun. Sunghoon mouths the word. The word seems to want to be in his mouth, and once it is in his mouth, it sits there cozy and warm.
“Jaeyun?” He says it out loud, the name, and he gets no response. The body is fully unconscious now but still breathing. Sunghoon looks at him, at Jaeyun, and he understands that there’s no one else here, that there’s no boat that has come in, no shipwreck.
I cannot leave this here, he thinks. I cannot leave this here, and I cannot bring any other person near it, because if anyone else came near it I don’t know what would happen, what they would do, and I do not want to know.
And then there is another thought underneath all of these. This washed up onto my sand. This is for me.

Summary
Sunghoon wasn't prepared for his ex-boyfriend to move into the apartment across from his; not after the boy had disappeared without explanation three years ago, just when he needed him most.
The door that adults forced them to close at the end of their teenage years opens again, giving way to everything: unhealed wounds, unresolved misunderstandings, and perhaps, an unextinguished love.
Sunoo, with the last of his scarce strength, insists on getting closer. Sunghoon, immersed in the demands of early adulthood and a routine of sudden responsibilities, resists experiencing for a second time that pain that pushed him to the limit before.
But seeking answers becomes inevitable, just as it becomes inevitable to break a little more when obtaining them.
