Summary
As Master King predicted, Sonic loses all of his Cyber powers after the final battle with Supreme. What he didn’t predict, though, was that a small part of his Cyber corruption would remain. The only feasible cure is, predictably, the Chaos Emeralds—all of them.
With his friends off on their own adventures, Sonic must search for the Chaos Emeralds alone. In the meantime, he finds himself growing closer to Shadow, of all people. As Shadow becomes an increasingly prominent figure in his life, Sonic realizes that his feelings for his rival-turned-friend go far beyond what he once thought.
He resolves to push those feelings aside until after he has all the Chaos Emeralds, but as his condition progresses, he finds himself forced to ask for Shadow's help. Working off of flimsy leads from Rouge and the Chaotix Detective Agency, Sonic and Shadow are caught in a race against time.
Will they be able to find all the Chaos Emeralds before Sonic's corruption passes the point of no return?

Rouge's lips pursed as she looked away, looking awfully guilty all of a sudden.
He narrowed his eyes in suspicion, "What?"
Rouge stretched her arms out on the table, tapping her fingers awkwardly, "Well... I don't think he's the silent type if I'm being honest."
"You got me a talkative bodyguard? Are you serious?"

In light of recent online threats, Rouge insists on getting Shadow a bodyguard.
Sonic is just happy to finally get a fresh start in life.

Summary
He collided with someone solid.
Coffee sloshed. Paper bags slipped from his grip. The impact jolted him out of his head so fast he barely had time to curse before instinct kicked in.
“Oh-! I’m so sorry- I wasn’t looking, I-!”
Sonic dropped into a crouch immediately, scrambling to catch what he could before it hit the floor. His heart was already racing, embarrassment heating his face. He hated being clumsy in public, the attention, the thought of ruining someone’s evening.
“I’m really sorry,” he repeated, words tumbling over each other. “I wasn’t paying attention, that one’s on me, I swear-”
The response wasn’t sharp or annoyed. It was rather calm.
“It’s fine.”
Sonic froze.
He knew that voice.
He looked up.
Shadow stood there as if he belonged to the quiet center of the room, untouched by the chaos Sonic had brought with him. His coffee cup was tilted slightly, a few dark drops staining the lid, but he didn’t seem bothered by it. He looked… relaxed. Poised deliberately.
Crimson eyes met Sonic’s.
For a second, Sonic forgot how to breathe.
