The venom hissed out of Hughie’s mouth at his last spoken word. Butcher’s expression darkened. His condescendingly playful demeanor melted away within a second. Toxicity littered the air between them.

Summary
"This is gunna hurt," Butcher warns, and Hughie's aching for it, too lost in watching liquid drip down capable fingers to contemplate their positions, to realise that what he's expecting cannot be possible.
Butcher's right. It does hurt.
When he reaches back and -Hughie can't see, he needs to see- slides one of those fingers inside himself, Hughie makes a senseless sound caught between an objection and a plea and nearly shreds the skin on his wrists with how violently he struggles, desperate to touch.

And Hughie does, but he’s laughing, and he sees the shine of begrudging humour in MM’s eyes too as he drives away. It feels so different to the last time he was left behind, tyres spinning, loose gravel flying.

Hughie’s on a sort of elated, desperate high after he leaves the tower, after he escapes with his life without being noticed by the superhero squad he’s supposed to be spying on. It manifests in high speed chatter and fidgeting, two things that make Butcher glare at him, sidelong.
