Shouto was waiting with bated breath for when Endeavor would finally snap, and it was exhausting. He needed concrete evidence, a way to know for certain that Endeavor was a changed man – and what better way to do that than to piss him off enough that he became violent? Theoretically, of course, because had Endeavor actually changed, he wouldn’t hit his son over something so trivial as a cigarette.
Alternatively, four times Todoroki Shouto smoked a cigarette because he wanted to anger his father, and one time he did it because he needed the respite.
