    When Edward Elric returns to Central with his brother by his side, he intends to fully focus himself on the clinic they're opening and leave his past behind him. Some parts of his past refuse to simply be left behind, though, and he's forced to revisit memories of a love gone wrong from five years beforehand that he's been trying to forget ever since. He soon finds himself confronted with a choice: walk away from one of the best things he's ever known in order to spare himself further heartache, or risk everything for a second chance at happiness.

    If this is what the bastard smells like on suppressants, then Ed can't even imagine how good he must smell normally. What would the full force of it do to Ed's body? To his psyche? It would probably feel amazing.

    Ed hopes he smells half this good to other people when he presents, but knowing his luck he'll smell like dear old dad, not that he remembers what that smells like anymore. Probably it'll be some bullshit like... like... a train car when it's way too hot out. Rancid milk. Automail oil, too, even if he gets his limbs back, because there's no way he won't be cursed with this for the rest of his life. To be fair, he fucking deserves it.

    Part of this whole thing has to be about acceptance, though, doesn't it? So, maybe he'll just... be what he is. For once.

    Ed felt his heart stumble a bit in his chest. A Roy Mustang who wasn’t cocksure, ambitious, a fucking iron fortress, was a man Ed hardly even knew. He’d seen some of it—the soft heart beneath—under Central Command. Down there the rage on Mustang’s face was as familiar to Ed as breathing. Now, he didn’t know what to do with Mustang’s trepidation. It made him feel as lost as Roy looked.
