Summary
Adriana Diaz is 24, fresh out of college and armed with little more than a degree, no plan to use it, a recently-imploded social life, and a bank account hovering dangerously close to overdraft. She scrolls through an embarrassingly sparse message history to find a text from 2019, and mouths a quiet thanks to the cloud for saving it. She messily scribbles the address '4995 South Bedford Street' onto a post-it, recalling a house she last saw for her sister-in-law’s funeral. She guesses that she's no longer welcome in Houston, after her graduation ceremony and the cold shoulders that came with it. El Paso certainly has nothing to offer beyond disappointed sighs and disapproving glares from her parents. And so she gets in her tiny, wheezing silver Nissan and heads west toward Los Angeles.
Or; Adriana Diaz arrives at Eddie's door one summer afternoon and finds her brother co-parenting two children with his best friend. She flounders around in search of purpose, friends, and maybe some way to save her brother from his own obliviousness.

Summary
Eddie is working hard on figuring himself out, getting a life, and also reestablishing contact with Buck after worrying about them drifting apart and their friendship changing. Realizing that sometimes people misunderstand his relationship with Buck should not be the shock it is. Also, if Chris could stop launching verbal sneak attacks on him, he'd appreciate it.
Meanwhile, Buck's learning to parent a toddler while not at all being insecure about something said by one Margaret Buckley. He's just studiously avoiding the word 'Parent' like the plague, and otherwise doing his damn best.
or
If Buck had a nickel for every time someone left him their kid in their will without his knowledge—well, he’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it’s happened twice now.

Summary
It's the control of his movement, the way his muscles move, how his hips roll, and his perfect posture. How he makes those quick steps and snaps of his hips look so easy, simple. And then he twirls around, the woman in his arms turning, so her back is to him, a strong forearm curled around her stomach, and Buck knows that tattoo—
"Eddie?!"
His brain short-circuits, and there are no more thoughts.
Because Eddie is here. And Eddie is dancing with a beautiful woman.
And Eddie is… perfect.
Buck goes on a date at a salsa club, only to discover Eddie there, using his ballroom-dancing skills for stress relief. Needless to say, seeing Eddie dance fries Buck's brain.

Summary
Eddie realizes in stages: the man’s slings look professional even if they’re made out of cast-off fabric from God knows where. The boy is wearing a striped shirt. The man’s leg is stiff, like Buck always denies his still gets sometimes and his brain gets caught on the word Buck, plays it over and over, and if he thinks the word and after that name he’s going to have to fall to his knees and never get up again.
Buck doesn't lose Chris in the tsunami, but as a result, he injures both of his arms. Eddie brings him home, and discovers that he wants him to stay.

Summary
“Alright,” Eddie shrugs, laissez-faire. He pulls Buck’s plate to the center of the table; pushes his own forward in kind. Then he begins a drawn-out circus routine of plucking an olive at a time up and out of the bowl and plopping them onto their respective dishes, one by one.
The delicate, repetitive movement of Eddie’s pinched fingers reminds Buck of picking the petals off of flowers. He loves me. He loves me not. He love—
An olive hits him square in the forehead.
“There,” Eddie says, resolute, as the pitted projectile tumbles to the ground at Buck’s feet. “Equal treatment.”
Or: Buck, Eddie, and the olive theory. Well, in theory.
