    “Y-Yeah, totally,” Shane replied. “D-Do you uh– do you know who that kid with Rozanov is?”

    Scott laughed a little, tilting his head in confusion.

    “Probably Rozanov’s kid,” he informed Shane, causing his brain to stall completely.

    “You didn’t hear?” Scott asked, and Shane blinked, trying to reboot his mind from the crash that Scott had just caused. “It’s why he took time off,” Hunter informed him. “Found out he had a kid, I guess. Or something like that, I didn’t really get the details.”

    Of all the reasons he’d thought of for Ilya disappearing for the past month, this had never crossed his mind. A million different thoughts raced through Shane’s mind. How the hell was Ilya a dad, and why hadn’t he told Shane and how the fuck did Scott Hunter of all people find out before him and—

    And what the fuck was Shane supposed to do now?

    After the tuna melt situation, Ilya suddenly disappears from hockey for six weeks, claiming some sort of family emergency. Shane showed up to the All-Star game ready to try and fix things, only to be shocked to find a little girl at Ilya's side with remarkably familiar blue eyes.

Instead he just made a face of agreement. “I have your results now if you’re ready.”

    Ilya wanted to scream. “Yes. I am ready,” he said in a managed voice instead.

    Mr. Carter, sighed, then opened up the file. “Mr. Rosanov, the results yesterday concluded with 99.99 percent certainty that you are in fact the father."

    But when the harmless Luca Haas snaps and shocks everyone by fistfighting with Filipino-Canadian youth athlete Angelo Perez, summer quickly derails into a dilemma to be seen as mature, living up to the expectations of the team, and these newfound, guilty urges for the very guy he fought on day one.

    Centaur matchmaking. Missing home. A messy summer fling. A mean article. An exploration of what sparks are supposed to feel like. And Ilya catches Luca buying condoms.

    And a “bad influence” that makes Luca feel—maybe for just one summer—that it's okay to be a little selfish.

    Ilya always craved for validation.
    Impersonal, vain, lighthearted validation. So much so, it had him running away to Canada.

    The vastness and anonymity of the internet gave him just what he wanted – Tumblr, a place where being judged was almost unthinkable and getting compliments about his body without much commitment or effort was ridiculously easy.

    But as the bubble he had built for himself in a faraway land burst in the shape of a threat and he accidentally reveals things he'd rather keep hidden, a flash of empathy and freckles on a screen were maybe enough to keep him afloat.

    Or,

    Ilya accidentally posts a vent on his aesthetic Tumblr account, and gets an ask he didn't expect in return from a pretty college student with pretty freckles.

    He didn't expect it to bleed into his real life.

His bio parents kicked him out for being gay, and he wouldn't trade his family for anything in the world, but being the gay poster boy for the team that shunned his dad for being gay because he has his dad's name? He can't even focus on just playing hockey because everything he does is either good for the Metro's image or good for his supposed rival.

    Aristotelis Floros has been captain of the American Juniors team twice, was the youngest member of the 2026 silver medal Team USA Men's Hockey Team, and was the second overall draft pick in 2026. To New York, which is a dream come fucking true. He's playing with Scott fucking Hunter, even if he announced 27-28 would be his last season Aris still gets to play with him! So fuck you, Hollander-Rozanov and your handsome fucking face and your goddamned superhero rescuing tendencies. Aris Floros is going to win the Stanley cup first.
