He broke off abruptly.
“Forgive me,” he said, flicking out his phone and turning on the flashlight. The cat hissed louder, eyes squeezing shut at the sudden light.
Dark fur—black rusty with red. And when the cat forced its eyes open, he saw silver-blue.
He remembered her words from the phone call. “I’m growing fur. And ears.”
Sylus turned off his flashlight. Still half crouching, he remained in silence to absorb this new realization. Then he burst into delighted laughter, low and rumbling. The cat seemed to sigh.
“What a fascinating drug, darling."Lois gets unwittingly turned into a cat via protocore based gene product. When temperamental instincts, drug-induced discomfort, and her own ocean-deep sentiments mix, a destructive result emerges… for Sylus’ sheets and mattress, at least.
