Now as Buck sat hopelessly in the locker room of the 118 fire station, his trembling hands pulled out the card. He nervously dialed the number, bringing his phone to his ears.

Summary
“Don’t tell me to calm down!” Buck’s attention once again goes to the brunet Firefighter who saved Kyle. The man seems pissed and worried. He talks with someone on the phone and tries to keep his voice quiet, but he still managed to yell through the whisper.
“¡Por el amor de Dios! My son is out there, somewhere.” he explains through gritted teeth to whoever is on the other side of the phone call. It’s an angry whisper. He runs a hand through his hair, sighing and trying to calm down, before continuing. “And this whole time I thought he was safe.” it’s not really the man’s fault, but Buck can understand his thinking. He gets why the man is so worried, even though he isn’t a father himself, and he unconsciously rubs Chris’ back with his right palm. “I should’ve been looking for him right now.” the Latino raises his voice a bit, most likely not even aware of that, while he emphasizes two last words of his sentence, and his voice wakes Christopher up.

His best friend has said he'd be there, but he doesn't want to let Chris down if Buck ditches them. Biting down on his lower lip, Eddie nods slowly. "He should," he says finally, sparing a glance at his phone on the coffee table. Then, more resolutely, "He said he will, okay?"
Chris looks appeased at that, and burrows into his dad's side once more.
He's asleep less than an hour later, and the 'Raincheck?' text comes a few minutes after that.

In hindsight, Eddie knows the argument is his fault. He knows that he instigated it, he knows that Buck didn't even do anything wrong. He knows that because he'd woken up in a bad mood, that seeing Buck just narrowly escape death again had sent him crashing over that edge from anxious to angry.
He knows—He knows, but when Buck turns his back on him, borderline shaking, and says, "I think it's best if you leave. I don't really want to be around you right now," it hits him like a punch to the gut.
