He hadn't expected the news of Mr. White's wife and sister-in-law dying in a car crash to bring him back to Albuquerque. He hadn't expected to feel so damned obligated to make sure Mr. White's kids would be all right. He hadn't expected to actually interact with them, or to stick around and get attached.
