Summary
Three weeks after Pangi stumbles home, half-dead, things fall back into relative normalcy. They don't talk about it. They put a potted plant over the bloodstain in their carpet, and they don't talk about it.
The two of them never intend to get into any trouble at all, really. They don't ever go looking for any of these things; these things just happen to find them.
The body they find inside an abandoned building is one of those things.
Worse, the body has a pulse.
Even worse than that, Pili thinks he might look familiar.

Summary
Children, unburdened by the shame of society, can come to conclusions quicker than any adult could ever dream of. They have no reason to deny themselves of who they truly are; Pili does not know, at this point, that there is a wrong way to be.
Pili is nine years old and afraid of nothing but the dark. Faster than he'll accept any other thing for the rest of his life, he comes to the obvious conclusion that he can bring things back from the dead.

Summary
"You're not the right colour," is all Pangi can say, choking on the words. It's the only thing that he knows is definitely wrong.
"What? Are you, like, drunk or something?"
Pangi's axe is slipping slowly out of his hand. It's not—no, he's not crazy. This is wrong. This is all wrong.
"You're not purple," he whispers, stepping backwards, "Why aren't you purple?"
"Why would I be purple?" Pili asks, incredulously, because that's who it is standing at the bottom of the stairs. Alive.

"A little more time," Lukey begs. "I need you to hold on a little longer."
Pangi pauses, and he nearly cries. He wants to run his hands over the planes of un-touched skin that still remains, map out the feeling with his fingers. Maybe memorize it by touch alone, hold onto the memory as it gets worse—yearn to feel the whole of him as he's supposed to be, un-corrupted, un-marked.
"Okay," unimaginably quiet, "Alright. I will."
He's lying, they both know.

This has to be a ploy. Ash might have gotten his ass kicked because of his poor life decisions, but he’s not going to fall for something like this. He might as well be begging to get scammed; to throw his life away. Pride is the only commodity he has left.
“I don’t know, maybe I just want to bleed to death in the middle of a fucking- desert, or whatever.” Ash deadpans.

As they dip their chin, her gaze falls on the cover art. It's definitely not a game they'd expect to find in a Raymour & Flanigan store, that's all they'll say.
Squiddo holds it close to her face, so close that the smooth, cool plastic nearly touches her orange-pink, round glasses. She squints slightly, curiosity piqued as she examines the case. A bright purple dominates the background. In the center, a man is blushing furiously, covering his red face with his hands.
Hearts surround him, which seems fitting, considering the big bubble letters on the cover read 'HARVESTED HEARTS'. Looks like a dating simulator, or something of the sort.
Why the hell is a furniture store selling a dating simulator game?
Newlyweds Reddoons and Squiddo stumble upon a supposedly haunted dating simulator, and then some.
