“I’m just wrapping up something at the lab and then I’ll be on my way,” Bucky had said. “I can’t wait to see you.”
He had sounded a little tired, maybe, but even through the phone, Steve could tell Bucky was smiling one of crooked, sappy smiles, the kind that would send Steve’s heart into fits like he was a ninety-pound asthmatic once again. Especially when Bucky told him how much he was looking forward to their first weekend off together in months.
“I can’t wait to see you either, Buck. I love you.”
“I love you too, Stevie. See you soon.”
And that’s it. No calls, no texts, nothing for over two hours. Which is a problem, because Bucky is never late, and he never fails to call or text back.
Something is very, very wrong.-or- Bucky goes missing, and Steve will stop at nothing to get him back.

When he's referred to an equine assisted therapy program, he has no expectations that living some kind of Barbie Horse Adventure will do him any good. But when he meets the program director, Sam Wilson, he thinks that maybe he judged things too quickly. Maybe a little peace, a sense of purpose, and a handsome cowboy will what he's been missing.
Of course, Bucky and Sam should both know that you can't outrun your past forever. It won't be long before it's knocking at their door, threatening the peace that both of them are trying so hard to hang onto.

The last thing Steve expects when he finally tracks Bucky down is that, not only has the man been living in Queens all this time, right under his nose, but also that, in the two years since they last saw each other, Bucky somehow acquired a kid.

He’s thirsty, for one, and his throat is scratchy as all get-out. And his head hurts. And okay, he’s sore. Really sore. Is he hungover?
Bucky burrows back into the covers and thinks back to the night before. He and Steve both had wine with dinner, but that’s not enough to get him feeling like crap now, and it never was, even before his off-brand serum.
He decides to ignore it.
