Never getting any communication from Manon, Rody decides with much difficulty that maybe it really is time to focus on himself. Well, maybe himself and his relationship with someone else. It's normal to have a good relationship with your boss after all, right? It's not weird and he just likes him as a good buddy and supportive boss. There is absolutely nothing else going on to suggest otherwise. Rody is sure of that. At least he thinks he's sure of that.
Vincent is scared of himself. I mean, he's killed someone! In fact, he's eaten that same someone and it didn't help his issue at all. What was the point of all this if he didn't even accomplish his goal? What will he have to do to atone for this? What sort of consequences will come if someone finds out? What if Rody finds out? Rody cannot find out. He just can't. If he does, it's all over. Rody is his last chance to achieve his goal, so he can't afford to fuck this up. Under NO circumstances can Rody find out.

Prince Riku’s 19th birthday passed last week with yet another dead end in the pursuit for his royal match. King Ansem, only three years into his reign, is already at his wit’s end regarding his darling little brother. He wants him both to be happy and to preserve the status of nobility. Growing disconcerted, he implores Lady Maleficent, the royal family’s alchemical advisor and confidant to the prince, to seek answers. What does his highness seek in a princess? For what reason has he turned down every possible match? Is there any hope for Riku, or for the sovereignty of his kingdom?

Goosebumps prickle along Link’s skin. His senses go haywire, survival instincts triggered by an apparent threat. Something is watching him.
Leaping back, he whips out a bow and arrow and aims it at the river, where the source of that omnipresent gaze feels strongest. There is a faint plink as something dips below the water and out of sight. For a moment he thinks he sees a faint outline of something large and red beneath the waves, but it lasts only a second, gone the next.
Link’s eyes narrow.
It’s that creature again.

“Flowers for Algernon” was referenced in the first book Avery found in the library. Avery finds D3rlor— no, Derek, a few weeks later in the middle of a busy street. How is Avery sure that’s Derek? Because he’s rasping Avery’s full name, student ID, and telling strangers how “Left” is a horrible direction.
A.K.A: He’s alive, but not well. The boys learn what proper communication is as they journey through the stages of brain damage recovery (and the first step of that is acceptance, contrarily).
