It might make me a selfish woman, but I'm happy you are here with me, alive," thought Utahime as she recalled the countless prayers she made every year for life to not take Shoko away from her. Utahime knows that she was wrong, knows that by doing this, she could've cursed Shoko, but she had faith that they would both make it through; she had to hold on to hope if she wanted to continue fighting. The thought of her retired life next to Shoko soothed her mind every night.

Zuko cried out, fingers threading into the man’s hair, tugging. "Fuck, Sokka-"
"Shh. I'm not done." Sokka released the nipple with a wet pop and moved across to the other side, repeating the pattern.
His teeth grazed, clamped, soothed. By the time he finished, Zuko’s chest was a constellation of tiny crescents.

"Men always fucking say that," she snapped, a lifetime of frustration living there. "'He'd never do that; he's a family man. Goes to church on Sundays, gives to charity, pillar of the community.' But it's not like that. Abusers aren't obvious. They hide it. That's how they get in the door." She shook her head at him, like he should be smarter than this. "You're his boss. Of course you'd never see it. It would only come out with people who have less power than him."
