Bookmarker's Notes
“If Henri keeps up that mindset and doesn't change his attitude he's going to have a hate squad. The Autobot Henri Hate Squad, and their slogan will be "We don't hate him cause he's human, we hate him cause he's Henri".”
-
“We’re a long-lived species. Bonding takes time, but with organics? I’ve been amongst them for centuries after leaving the Circle of Light. They love differently than us. It’s so fierce, intense, and fast. I heard it’s an amazing feeling, to have the love of an organic, to know that they chose you throughout their short lifespan.”
-
You whimpered at the Jet Commander, “What if – if we told Megatron we’re really, really sorry.”
“It’s an option.” Starscream rapped his head back against the wall. “Wouldn’t be the first time I groveled for forgiveness.”
Thundercracker snorted, “Usually on your knees – wait, don’t shoot me!”
-
“Am I the only one wondering if there was a traitor in the group?” Thundercracker retained his pattern of shooting and ducking, taking a moment to gesture with the sweep of his hand at the incoming force. “I mean, they are coming right for us.”
“I would love to be part of a mission where there's not a betrayal, y’know?” Skywarp muttered, “C’mon, I know we’re Decepticons, but it’s just getting old.”
“And you wonder why I’m so paranoid,” Starscream said, “Slag like this – you can practically set a chronometer to it. You would think I’d see it coming.”
-
You felt childish and you hated yourself for it. You had no right to be mad at your kidnappers for lying to you, but you were shifting the blame right on your own person. When had you let your guard down to let yourself feel this hurt?
You had a job to do, to give those you cared about the possibility of home. You just made the mistake of caring about the wrong ones. You missed the Autobots more than ever. You missed their warm words with real and actual feelings behind it. You missed the gentle touches that poured positivity and light into your very soul. You missed feeling surrounded by smiles and laughter. You missed the affection.
You missed it all so much, that you sought it in others who used it against you.
-
Omega’s deep vocals brought Alan out of history. “Family: In danger. Objective: Save family.”
Alan breathed, blinked, sat back down on his legs, and did a few other things he couldn’t quite recall as he was too flabbergasted. “You...you want to join the... everyone...? With my help?”
“Affirmative.” The voice said clearly. “Omega Supreme: Answers the Call.”
-
“It worked!” Wheeljack cheered, “We now have a bomb!”
“What are you gonna do with it?” Thundercracker asked dubiously.
“...throw it.”
Soundwave cradled his helm. You didn’t need to read his EM field to know what he wanted to murmur behind that faceplate.
“You throw it, they start shooting, it’ll detonate before it even clears the wall,” Perceptor argued, “I’ve been saying that – why aren’t you listening.”
“But I made a bomb.”
“Yes, yes, and it looks wonderful,” You interjected, hobbling back to the group where Wheeljack was practically beaming at your praise.
-
If some rando walked up to Alan in a bar and told him that aliens existed, and that one day he would pilot one of these mechanical beings and brawl it out like a heavyweight champion with a skyscraper sized asshole, he would react the only way he could.
Slam his drink down and ask when, because this, this, was what life was about: big robots and shooting shit.

When hearts break, when sparks burn, there was little difference in the aftermath.

Bookmarker's Notes
"What…the…slag…" came the voice of one vastly bewildered Decepticon, and both Sideswipe and Sunstreaker, who had just succeded in shearing another long stripe of wool from the creatures side, looked up and into the optics of Rumble and Frenzy.
The two Decepticon tapes stood a bare ten feet away, staring slack-faced at the Autobot brothers. Sunstreaker froze, llama in hand, while Sideswipe held up a forgotten, still-humming set of clippers and stared in extreme puzzlement at what really had no reason to be standing before him. Even the llama went still, and for a long, long minute, nobody so much as blinked, as everyone tried to understand what exactly was going on.
Perhaps it was the full moon. Perhaps the Decepticon cassettes' processors were simply not able to translate the information coming from their optical receptors. In any case, it was with a look of extreme calm that Rumble activated his com link. "Rumble to Soundwave," he hailed, almost if to report the weather.
Neither Autobot moved, but simply watched the exchange, as though it were the most natural thing in the world. "Soundwave here. Report," came the monotone voice.
"Two Autobots sighted," Rumble replied.
"State names and activity."
Rumble paused, head cocked as though still not quite sure that he was seeing what he was seeing. "It's Sideswipe and Sunstreaker," he said, much too calmly. "And they seem to be shaving a llama."
Dead silence.
The silence dragged, and at length Frenzy tilted his head as well, and asked quite casually, "Why…are you shaving a llama?”
-
Fortunately for him, however, Frenzy hadn't bothered to warn his partner of his impending assault, and out of the corners of his optics, Sideswipe caught sight of Rumble rolling around in agony right next to him. Which of course triggered Sideswipe's sense of funny, making him snicker even through the awful pain, so much so that when Sunstreaker, (who had kept his head a bit better), put an electron pulse through Frenzy's midsection and ended his attack, Sideswipe just kept right on laughing.
Matter of fact, he rolled right over on his back and guffawed, earning a cold look from his brother, and a stupefied stare from Rumble. Another eerie silence settled over the yard, save of course for the raucous noise of Sideswipe's laughter, which got even louder when it occurred to Sideswipe that through some odd twist of cosmic fate, they were all taking a commercial break from the war.
"Dude," Rumble got up and dusted himself off, "what's wrong with yer stupid brother?"
Sunstreaker narrowed his optics. "He's stupid. That's what. What's wrong with your stupid partner?"
"Frenzy?" Rumble looked up at the yellow warrior. "Oh, he's stupid, too."
-
"You know the CDC was broken into," the tactician informed them. "It seems the Decepticons were after some of the humans' more deadly toxins, apparently in an effort to bring themselves up to speed in the area of biological warfare. Monkeys for their testing were to be stolen from the Portland Zoo. It's a good thing you were there."
From his wry tone, it didn't sound like Prowl thought it was a good thing. Not that Sideswipe cared a whit. He puffed up his chest, beaming proudly. "Happy to be of service, sir!" Sideswipe crowed, and if it was obvious that he was mocking Prowl, the tactician didn't bother to show that he noticed.
"Stop being happy," Prowl deadpanned. "It is too late, and I am too tired, for your brand of happiness."
"Right away, sir!" Sideswipe replied merrily.

Bookmarker's Notes
"Um, I mean yeah. But it’s not like that. I mean they’re friends but like, ‘friend’ is a totally different concept for them. It’s so much more hardcore! Not like weaksauce human friendships. LIke the girls in my class who were all: ‘Oohhh Miko-chan, I can’t believe you’re going to America~~ We’ll text you every day on the group chat!’ When most people get built or walk out of the Well or whatever, you don’t get a family. So your friendships are basically like your family.”

Bookmarker's Notes
Not that he really wanted Siders to die, see. No, I think it's just that Sunny's real tired of waiting for the day that he has to face his brother's death, and for five long days, he thought to himself that the wait might have been over. Oh, sure, Sideswipe's death would have hurt like hell, just like I hurt after seeing my city bombed and burned to rubble. I mean, I wanted to die, just like Sunstreaker was slowly dying as he sat there in the lounge and let his charge gradually bleed away. But somehow, I almost have the feeling that the pain of loss isn't near as bad as the constant torment of loving someone who's still alive, and knowing that you might lose them at any time. I don't mean to sound gushy, and I know if the brothers ever heard me talk about them like this, they'd probably both pound me into a pile of whimpering parts and pieces. But the sheer fact of it is that their love – their absolute devotion – to one another runs deeper and more deadly than any kind of affection I have seen between two beings before in my life. They would die for one another. Listen, I've heard a lot of people talk about how they'd die for this or that person, but when it comes down to it, how many of us mean it? I mean, it's death, people. Listen to what I'm saying to you. [...]
Because, you see, it's not about bravery. We're all brave. I mean, bravery's just doing what you have to in spite of being terrified to do it, so I guess every Autobot I know qualifies as being brave, right? But what Sideswipe did for Sunstreaker was something beyond bravery; it was an act of pure, unselfish love. And that terrifies me. It terrifies me because I'm afraid to ever love someone like that, and it terrifies me on their behalf, because I'm afraid of the day one of them loses the other. But maybe that, in and of itself, is the true definition of bravery. Maybe it's not as big a deal to throw our lives on the line for the Autobot Cause as it is for Sideswipe and Sunstreaker to risk a closeness that none of the rest of us will risk. Maybe real bravery is in loving another soul more than your own life, and letting that soul in closer than your own skin, even when you might lose them to the next battle, the next skirmish, the next day. And maybe that's the true test put to all of us. Because in the end it all comes down to who you've loved in life. Because that is life.

He was back in the Hole. Or rather, he'd never left, or it had never left him, and he felt the slow rise of his own terror as he realized that if Sideswipe died, Sunstreaker would never step foot outside of his cell again, because he didn't know the way out, and without Sideswipe, there was nobody who knew where to find him. His head in his hands, his optics squeezed shut, Sunstreaker felt the awful keening begin again in his throat, but he knew there was nobody to hear. There had been nobody to hear him when Sideswipe lay dying, nobody to hear him when he'd sat in the lounge all those days and waited to hear the news that his brother and very best friend was gone, and there had certainly been nobody to hear him when they'd thrown him in the Hole and dropped the door shut over his head like a hammer on its gavel. They'd isolated him for so long that it had become the simplest and most effective answer to anything Sunstreaker did, and now that Sideswipe was dying and Sunstreaker was in this black hole of a place, he knew it was only a matter of time before the others forgot he existed, and then he would die, too, his name removed from the lists as though he had never been at all.
You see, Sunstreaker was not afraid of war or even death; he was afraid of being alone.
-
Optics glittering like sapphire shards, Sideswipe leaned in, and Mirage found himself caught like an animal, wretched and terrified in the warrior's gaze as he understood at last that Sunstreaker was all that Sideswipe would ever know of Neverland; that all that he knew, all that he loved, all of his belonging was with his brother, and that on the day that Sunstreaker fell, Sideswipe would fall, too, an exile forever from the promised land. Sunstreaker was Sideswipe's fabled Tower; he was all that Sideswipe had, and Mirage had been willing to take that from him, and to cause Sideswipe the kind of pain that Mirage himself had been so desperately running away from. "Love is pain," he remembered someone saying once, and it had taken him all this time, but at last he understood what that meant.
