"If this is all that is going to come out of us meeting today, then I see no reason for me to stay any longer," Jeongin snaps, harsh and angry. "May I call back that little maid then? It seems you two were getting along just fine."
Jeongin almost feels guilty, and it frustrates him further when his stomach twists with that familiar sense of dread and sadness. He hated the feeling, hated when tears pricked his eyes unless it was from pleasure. Despises it even more when it's because of this string that holds him and Seungmin together. Secretly afraid that one day it will snap.
Jeongin thinks he is too poisoned to love. Seungmin accepts that poison with open arms.

Summary
The problem is that Jeongin can smell it. His sense of smell is unusually sharp, even for an alpha, he can tell that Seungmin’s heat is approaching rapidly. A day at most, probably less. He’s not going to do anything stupid, and if he has to sleep on Chan’s couch for that whole time, he will.
“Hyung, I can’t take it. I thought I could be strong and handle it, but I really can’t.”

Overhead lighting was Jeongin’s sworn enemy, and living together had made Seungmin fond of the various fairy lights and tall standing lamps with orange covers that radiated a soft, warm glow across their apartment.
Jeongin called it aesthetic. Seungmin called it home.

“You know I’m not into this kind of stuff. I don’t date.” Jeongin knew Seungmin knew. Neither of them ever dated anyone. They didn’t talk about their hookups, so to each other their love lives stayed completely blank.
“You would date your soulmate, though, and this is a great opportunity to find them. Who knows, maybe they will be there.”
Jeongin didn’t care about the theoretical soulmate when the person he wanted was sitting in front of him and not shutting up about how nice it would be to know who they were fated to.
Or: Soulmates AU where Seungmin unknowingly severs the bond between him and Jeongin. Jeongin slowly starts fading away, and Seungmin is left confused as to why his best friend grows distant and avoids even looking at him.

Despite being unable to articulate what exactly is wrong, patient is insistent upon being seen by the medical student who performed the procedure (Kim Seungmin, MS3). Patient rates current pain as a 3/10 and has been taking his oral NSAIDs as prescribed by Dr. Bang.Or: Jeongin ends up in the emergency room a lot more than any healthy 23-year-old man should.

What he wants…? This, Seungmin, is something Jeongin could want? It seems far-fetched. Seungmin is the pathetic one, crawling into his bed on a nightly basis for a whiff of his mild scent, a necessity to get to sleep, and Jeongin is the one politely and patiently tolerating him out of obligation or out of their alternate give and take dynamic or whatever it is they have going on.
Seungmin stops being able to sleep, and Jeongin's bed holds the solution.

When he lands into the boat, Seungmin opens his mouth to tell the man how impressed he is by the way that he was able to pull himself up so easily, especially with that tail of his. His gaze trails down the man’s body from where smooth, pale skin transitions into inky black scales echoing dark, chromatic colours of the rainbow. It looks like an oil slick, how cool.
Wait, hang on. The man has a tail.
What the fuck?!
“You’re…you’re a-”
“Siren,” the man – fish? replies without hesitation. “Yeah, I have a tail and lure sailors to their death, blah blah blah, but I have a name. It’s Jeongin, by the way.”

He has never once raised his voice in a meeting, even during the Hot Churn Summer of '25, where a fourth of their client list decided to all end their contracts in the same quarter, and the founder was grilling him for reasons beyond his control. He is, by broad and sincere consensus, one of the nicest people at the company, a genuine delight, sweet sweet Jeongin.
And then Kim Seungmin walks past his desk, and Jeongin has to quickly close the browser tab where he was researching how long a body takes to decompose in a server room.

Summary
Seungmin and Jeongin's story is one of sweetness and persistence. Seungmin had pushed through the drunken nonsense of university, coming out as someone rooted no matter what tried to shake him. Identity is something concrete and straightforward, and the consequences it entails are simple and predictable. Humans are mortal, the elderly eventually pass away, and his fiancé is a fallen angel destined for greatness. These are just facts of existence, and his universe couldn't exist without them.
Yet when the world, his place in it, and Jeongin's final remaining mystery began to come to the forefront, the roots that had made him so unshakable throughout these years began to snap. Up can be down, the old can transcend age, and Jeongin is capable of doing something that will shatter all the world and the next. Something that, somehow, shouldn't break Seungmin.
Facing the threat of losing all he has dedicated himself to, he has to relearn what it truly means to have wings.

Seungmin looked almost the exact same as the day he left, apart from how his bangs had grown out a little. Jeongin felt like he couldn’t breathe, his body unable to decide on whether he was relieved to see the familiar man again or filled with pure rage as every memory from that night came flooding back to him.
