Protect the territory? Nope. After the Nogitsune, Scott tells Stiles she isn't Pack. Still, Stiles holds on. After her father - no, not her father, the Sheriff - disowns her, Stiles holds on. The last straw? The one that did her in? The Sheriff basically gave Mr. Argent permission to kill her. With nothing left, no reason to hold on any longer - Stiles goes to said Mr. Argent's house to give him the chance to do just that - kill her. What happens next is a ride of magic, murder, and discovering the true meaning of Pack.

He was glancing at the clock on the wall when his eye caught on a boy, sitting at one of the high tables, little more than five feet away. The kid was staring at him in fascination, straw forgotten and dangling from his lips. There was a dollop of whip cream on his nose.
“Can I help you?” Peter asked, eyebrow raised in disapproval.
“Are you a doctor?”
Peter frowned. “Most certainly not.”
“Ah,” the kid sighed. “Then no.”
His eyes stayed glued to Peter’s face, the intensity of his gaze putting the man on edge.
“Didn’t your parents tell you it’s rude to stare?” Peter snapped.
“Sure, but I’ve never seen a real werewolf before!”
In that moment Peter was glad for his iron-clad self control. His eyes didn’t flash, his teeth didn’t lengthen, but his jaw sure as hell fell open.
“I beg your pardon!”

Summary
Derek flies off the handle at Stiles after Scott's betrayal, only to realize that Stiles is both injured and looking to check on how he is doing. They don't have a chance to reconcile as they are both captured by hunters working under Gerard. They turn the alpha feral in order to get him to kill Stiles but something different happens instead, leaving the two boys to work out their feelings and issues while recovering from the encounter and trying to rebuild the Hale pack.

Scott, pale and wide eyed, looked between Derek and Chris, who were both looking at him for answers. “I- Deaton said he wouldn’t notice!”
Chris sighed, “wouldn’t notice what?”
Derek growled in agreement.
“Deaton gave me pills, full of mountain ash, to replace Gerard’s cancer pills. That way after Derek bit him, Gerard would die.”
Chris crossed his arms, “you didn’t think a cancer patient, or the doctor he checks in with regularly, would notice that he wasn’t taking his pills?”

Life is unstable though and now he has to come back to this hell hole to bury a fallen brother.
He has changed though, grown up and matured. He can handle this little weeklong visit; go to the funeral, spend time with his dad, check up on any potential work in the area, avoid Derek, the pack and... Derek's wife?
Whatever, he will handle this with all the grace he has learned in the last decade than disappear into the night. He hopes.
