Derek saw every version there was. He didn't retain all of them but he saw them and he knew them inside and out. Derek knew him—knew Avery—like a baby's first breath followed by its scream, like the way humans feared the unknown and the known, like nature knew rot and life. Derek knew Avery instinctively and wholly.
